Soulja Boy Biography

DeAndre Ramone Way (born July 28, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois), better known by his stage name, Soulja Boy, is an American rapper. His single “Crank That” reached a peak position of #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 2007. He also lived in Atlanta, Georgia and Batesville, Mississippi.
Soulja Boy grew up idolizing rapper 50 Cent who inspired him to embark on a cyberquest to promote his own music. By using MySpace and YouTube, he managed to secure a loyal fanbase who help shoot his popularity into the Billboard charts before even being signed to a label. Soulja Boy says that he would take whatever song was popular at the time and attack its title to his songs, so that when someone would download the popular music they would instead get his. This spamming promotion earned him over a million hits to his MySpace profile. After learning about his internet popularity, 50 Cent picked him up and had him become the opening act at his concerts.
Some may be surprised at the this young rappers articulation. He was a straight A+ student throughout high school and at 17 he has become increasingly vocal over the Jena Six debate. Though he is constantly on tour, Soulja Boy continues his studies with a private tutor. Soulja Boy has recently been added to the list of artists set to perform during the 2007 BET Hip Hop Awards.
